St Patrick’s Arva GAA Club: Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Clubrooms on Tuesday last 10th May 2016. The Jackpot was €4,350. Numbers drawn – 9 / 24 / 27 / 28 – no winner. €50 winners – Sean Donnelly, Main St. Dessie Dobson, Farrangarve. Seamus J. Cullen, Cornafean. The Jackpot on Tuesday night last 17th May 2016 was €4,400. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection prior to the draw. We appeal to Club Members and thee wider public to support the Lotto each week as the club are trying to raise funds for their new development and all support is much appreciated
Golf Classic: St. Patrick’s Arva GAA Club is hosting a Golf Classic on Friday, July 15th 2016 in County Cavan Golf Club in order to help raise funds for a major development plan that will create new facilities for the club and the community in the near future. We would greatly appreciate if you could enter a team and/or sponsor a tee box or green on the day. Team Entry: The cost per team is €200. This will include Refreshments on arrival, Goody Bag, 18 Holes Golf and Dinner. There will be lots of Prizes to be won including The Longest Drive, Nearest the Pin etc. Sponsorship Options: Main Sponsors for the day (this includes entry for a team of 4) – €500. Tee Box Sponsor (per tee) – €100. Green Sponsor (per green) – €50. All the names of our sponsors will be acknowledged on the Presentation Notice Boards on the day. Confirmation: Bishop Leo O’ Reilly D.D. imparted the Sacrament of Confirmation to the children of the Parish of Killeshandra on Sunday last in St Brigid’s Church, Killeshandra. The following are the children from St Mary’s National School, Arva – Damien Dobson, Fiona Gormley, Conor Leddy, Kate Madden, Kelsey McGahan, Sam O’Connor, Joe Reilly, Seaghán Ward, Eva Brady, Daniel Daly, Joseph Finnegan, Paul Finnegan, Ronan McDonnell, Eoin MacManus, Jessica Pratt, and Jana Sergejeva. And from Coronea National School – Aimee McIntyre, Shauna Flood, Kevin Duignan, and Trever Sheridan. They all looked radiant on their special day and we congratulate each one , their parents / guardians and the teachers in all schools for their work.
Lavey 2 Lourdes: on Sunday last five brave Cyclist’s took off from Lavey, Co Cavan to cycle to Lourdes in an effort to raise much needed funds for the Assisted Pilgrim Section of the Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage which goes to Lourdes each year from 27th May to 1st June. Fr Kevin Fay celebrated Mass at 7.15 am following which they headed on their trip. They hope to be in Lourdes on the 25th but have 2 days to spare in case of an emergency. A large group of cyclists went with them as moral support – some as far as Mullingar and some as far as Carlow where they overnighted before heading to Rosslare on Monday morning. Petition’s: If anyone wishes to send a Petition to the Grotto in Lourdes please place them in a sealed envelope (no money) and leave into the Post Office for collection. If anyone wishes to have a Candle burn at the Grotto then put money into a sealed envelope with your name – Candles cost €2-50, €5-50 or €10-00.
Annual Alzheimer’s Tea Day took place on Friday last next door to Keith’s Centra, Main Street, Arva. Where there was an array of Cakes, Buns etc. there were loads of visitors who made very generous donations and the organisers wish to thank everyone for their support – those who baked and those who called in – the sum of €715 -00 was raised for a very worthy cause. Mile Buiochás.
Bingo: The weekly Bingo sessions continue every Sunday night in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva with a great attendance. There is €3,290-00 in prize money to be won every night – the best around. If you’re not in you can’t win. Eyes down 9.00 pm.
School/Community Walk: As part of their Active School Week St. Mary’s National School, Arva will be having a School/ Community Walk on today Wednesday 18th May leaving the school car park at 2.40pm.(Route: Gowna Rd to Cormore and back to Arva) All are welcome to join in and walk.
New Infant Open Day: St. Mary’s National School will hold an Open Day for all new pupils for September 2016 on Thursday 2nd June 2016 from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm. If any parent wishes to enrol their child for September 2016, and has not already done so, please contact the school on 0494335560 for an enrolment form.

Line Dancing: Classes have finished for the summer months and will resume in September in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva. On Friday night last they had a very successful Country Hoedown with a big attendance. A great night was had by all. Play: Seamus O’Rourke in partnership with Aughawillan GAA are proud to announce “Danger Money” a comedy and one man play written By John McManus. This fantastic play will be performed in Aughawillan Parish Hall on Friday May 27th 2016 at 8.30 sharp. Tickets €10.00 no need to book tickets available at the door. Community Games: Well done to the following children from the Arva/Killeshandra/Cornafean area who participated in the Community Games Swimming county finals in Cavan on Saturday: Eirinn Smith, John Miney, Jack Dobson, Lauren Miney, James Miney, Abby McDowell, Isabella McHugh, Grace Madigan, Daniel Madigan, Aisha Gannon, Charlie Gannon and Katie Gannon. Congratulations to Aisha Gannon, Charlie Gannon, Katie Gannon and Daniel Madigan who won gold medals in their age groups and qualified to represent Cavan in the National finals in Athlone. Congratulations also to Abby McDowell and James Miney who won silver medals. Best of luck to all of our Cavan swimmers in the national finals in August.
The Arva/Killeshandra/Cornafean Community Games Athletics area finals will take place in Cornafean on Wednesday 25th May at 6.30pm.
