St Patrick’s Arva GAA Club: Lotto: The Arva Football Club Lotto draw was held in the Clubrooms on Tuesday last 21st June 2016. The Jackpot was €4,650. Numbers drawn – 10 / 13 / 23 / 26 – no winner. €50 winners – Brendan Madden, Dublin. Erick Duke, Corhanna. Gerry Queenan, Sligo. The Jackpot on Tuesday night last 28th June 2016 was €4,700. Lotto Envelopes can be left in the Letterbox in St Patrick’s Hall next to the National School for collection prior to the draw. We appeal to Club Members and thee wider public to support the Lotto each week as the club are trying to raise funds for their new development and all support is much appreciated
GAA: Cavan will face Tyrone on this Sunday 3rd July at 4 o’clock in St Tighernach’s Park, Clones in the Ulster Senior Football Championship Semi-Final replay. Hopes are high that they can defeat their much vaunted opponents and reach the Ulster Final. The losers will face Carlow in the Qualifiers probably the following Saturday. We wish Ciaran Brady and all involved continued success. The other Semi-Final also finished level and Donegal will meet Monaghan in their replay on this Saturday at 7 o’clock back in Kingspan Breffni Park. The losers here will be at home to Longford.
Cavan Ladies defeated reigning champions Donegal and they will play Monaghan in the Ulster Final on Sunday at 2 o’clock in Clones. They hope all Cavan supporters will travel in time to cheer them on and make it a double celebration. We wish Conor Barry, Team Manager, Donna English and all the girls every success.
Golf Classic: Time is running out for anyone wishing to be associated with the St. Patrick’s Arva GAA Club Golf Classic on Friday July 15th 2016 in County Cavan Golf Club. The reason for it is to help raise funds for a major development plan that will create new facilities for the club and the community in the near future. We would greatly appreciate if you could enter a team and/or sponsor a tee box or green on the day. Team Entry: The cost per team is €200. This will include Refreshments on arrival, Goody Bag, 18 Holes Golf and Dinner. There will be lots of Prizes to be won including The Longest Drive, Nearest the Pin etc. Sponsorship Options: Main Sponsors for the day (this includes entry for a team of 4) – €500. Tee Box Sponsor (per tee) – €100. Green Sponsor (per green) – €50. All the names of our sponsors will be acknowledged on the Presentation Notice Boards on the day. The Sick and Housebound in the Arva and Coronea areas will be visited around the usual times on this Friday 1st July. If anyone wishes to have a visit from their priest they should contact the parish secretary
Visitation: The annual Visitation and Blessing of Graves will take place in Coronea Cemetery on Sunday 14th August at 12.15 pm. All Plot Owners are requested to ensure that the resting place of their loved one’s is clean and tidy for this day and please bring away all rubbish.
Arva Agricultural Show Society: held their Official Launch on Friday night last in Hughie Brady’s Lounge,
There was a good turnout and everyone is anxious that this year’s event – which is the 59th Annual Show – will be a huge success. There are 18 Qualifiers and over 300 Classes from Horses, Cattle etc to Home Industries, Farm and Garden, Dog Show and the Irish Tug O War Championship Finals. There are just over 3 weeks to go so get your Prize List and get Entries in before Tuesday 19th July. Each year many people arrange their holidays to coincide with the Show and meet old friends at this much anticipated annual event.
Congratulations are extended to M.s Orla Brady, Main Street, Arva and Mr Joseph Tully, Killeshandra who were married in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Arva on Friday 17th June. A reception followed in the Kilmore Hotel which was attended by family and many friends and a very enjoyable day was had by all. We wish Orla and Joseph every happiness in their future lives together.

Breffni 3 Province Challenge: Planning for this year’s challenge is in full swing, with the aim of hitting our €1 million target for Cancer Care & Research. Information is available on Facebook or call/text 086 0848633 or on breffni3provincechallenge.com . This year’s challenge brings you a new dimension aimed at local clubs, be it running, walking, fitness, GAA.. The list is endless!! Our team event, brought to you by the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva, allows teams of between 3 & 6 people to compete in the Half Marathon. The best three times will give you the win. But as an added twist; the best overall male and female will not be counted! As this is a huge event to organise, all help is much appreciated. If you are willing to volunteer a few hours in marshalling, catering or first aid please let us know. As usual this hugely popular event will be held on the August Bank Holiday weekend which will be Saturday 30th July.

Bingo: The weekly Bingo sessions continue every Sunday night in St Patrick’s Hall, Arva with a great attendance. There is €3,290-00 in prize money to be won every night – the best around. If you’re not in you can’t win. Eyes down 9.00 pm.

Tractor Run: Each year the Colmcille Vintage Club hold a tractor run in aid of a local charity. This year they have kindly agreed to donate the proceeds to the Longford branch of the Alzheimer’s Society. The run takes place on this Sunday 3rd July, departing from Aughnacliffe at 12 noon heading towards Esker Cross, Drumlish and on to Longford, returning via Ballinalee. Bucket collections will take place along the route & subscription cards are also in circulation. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
