The Cavan Senior Football team played Roscommon on Sunday last in Dr Hyde Park on a beautiful sunny day. Unfortunately for the large contingent of Cavan supporters the team reverted to defensive mode and lost by 3 points. The supporters were very disappointed with the performance as they felt that the team was finally going places. So it’s back to Division 2 for next year. The next competitive game will be the Ulster Championship Quarter-Final against either Fermanagh or Monaghan on 11th June at 2 o’clock.
Arva GAA “A Night at the OsKaRs” fundraiser is up & running A fantastic number of participants from Arva & the surrounding areas have volunteered for the event which will take place in the Hotel Kilmore on Friday 7th July 2017. The beauty of “A Night at the OsKaRs” is participants have their acting done prior to the event so there’s no pressure on the night to perform in front of a live audience. Full training is provided to all participants by the production company and it’s not too late for any budding actors/actresses out there that would like to be involved – just contact any committee member or check out the event facebook page www.facebook.com/arvaoskars/
There are some sponsorship opportunities available too so if acting isn’t your forte and you want to contribute then again, just contact the committee and they can point you in the right direction. All monies raised are going towards a new Arva GAA pitch development which will enhance Arva GAA and the community and will be an essential resource for future generations.

Bank Closure: A meeting was held last week in response to the news that the Ulster Bank Group intend to close their Branch in Arva next September and it was expected that a Delegation would meet Executives from the Bank on yesterday (Tuesday). Everyone at the meeting spoke of their disappointment with the Bank’s decision as some families have been using this Bank for 3 / 4 / or some for 5 generations and this shows scant regard for their loyalty. Will some consider changing to the other Bank in the town or do we lose their custom in the town if they follow the Ulster bank to another location? Closure’s such as this are ripping the heart out of rural towns but the decision makers don’t seem to care.
