Arva GAA: Arva travelled to the 3G Pitch at Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday evening last to play Cavan Gaels in the Spring League – the game was switched from Terry Coyle Park due to the incessant rain. These sides haven’t met in over 20 years and while the Gaels were short a number of first team players they still had enough to take the spoils on a day that was not conducive to playing the game. Arva played better against the wind in the first half as did their opponents in the second and while only 2 points separated them at the end Arva will feel that with a little bit of luck they could have at least got a draw. Conal Sheridan had the opening scores with pointed frees for Arva in the 7th and 15th minutes but the Gaels swept down the field from the kick out and following a number of passes Martin Dunne finished to the net to put them ahead in the 16th min and followed up with points from Vinny Coyle (20 min) and Andy Graham (22 min). Both defences were on top for most of the game and we waited 7 minutes for the next score when Sheridan pointed for Arva. Sheridan was on target with a free a minute later and in the 31st minute Jonathan Mc Cabe levelled matters with a great point. As the visitors fought for every ball they were rewarded with a goal in the 32nd minute when Conor Mc Entee after a great run up field was on the end of a passing movement to punch the ball to the net and leave Arva ahead at the interval 1-5 to 1-2. The Gaels set about reducing the lead from the restart and not only did they succeed in that but raced into a 2-7 to 1-5 lead after 12 minutes. But this Arva team will not lie down and started their own fight back with points from Sheridan (14 & 16 min) and Thomas Brady (18 min) to leave 2 points between the sides. The winners had 2 points (24th / 25th min) but back came Arva with Mc Entee(28 min) and Kevin Bouchier (31 min) to wrap it up and leave the full time score Cavan Gaels 2-9 Arva 1-10. Arva team and scorers – Richard Keith, James Morris, Ryan Magarahan, Shane Finnegan, Stephen Ellis, Thomas Brady (0-1), Conor Mc Entee (1-1), Fergal Mc Glade, Bryan Mc Entee, Jonathan Mc Cabe (0-1), Kevin Bouchier (0-1), Peter Morris, Paul Cassidy, Conal Sheridan (0-6), Paul Bouchier. Subs – Danny Ellis, Brian Ellis, Danny Conneely, Ciaran Cooney.
