Arva GAA: Arva had their first outing in Division 1 in over 20 years when they entertained Ballyhaise in Park na nGeal, Dromard in the new Spring League on Sunday last. In ideal weather conditions Arva opened with a bang when they scored 4 goals inside the first 10 minutes as the visitors took a long time to settle down. Once they found their feet the game was evenly balanced to the final whistle. Ballyhaise attacked from the throw-in but the Arva backs broke up the attack and went straight down the field and following a number of passes Kevin Bouchier sent a great pass across the front of the goal to Brian Ellis who turned and slotted to the net. Arva attacked from the kick-out and as the ball bobbed around the goalmouth Johnathan Mc Cabe pounced and stuck it in the net. Two minutes later following a 1 / 2 with Ellis – Mc Cabe pointed. In the 6th minute Peter Conneely received a pass and soloed through the Ballyhaise defence giving Darren Smith no chance for Arva’s third goal. Play moved up and down the field before another Arva attack which resulted in a shot at goal which Smith deflected only for Ciaran Cooney to react quickly and punch the ball to the net to leave Arva 4-1 to no score after 10 minutes. Ballyhaise then got to grips with the game and Stephen Smith hit 3 points in a row (11 / 12 / 15th minutes) while Shane Mc Kiernan pointed in the 18th minute. Peter Conneely hit a huge point for Arva from over 50 meters (19 min) but Smith replied for Ballyhaise 4 mins later. Arva had the last 3 points of the half with Kevin Bouchier (24 mins) Brian Ellis (27 mins) and Conal Sheridan (29 mins) who received a pass from Conneely and soloed 70 meters to close the scoring and leave the half time score Arva 4-5 Ballyhaise 0-5. Bouchier opened the scoring in the second half with a point after 3 minutes but Smith hit a brace for Ballyhaise (4th / 5th mins). Peter Morris (7 min) and Mc Cabe (10 mins) hit points for Arva but 3 minutes later Smith found the net for the visitors. The Arva reply was swift with Sheridan and Mc Cabe on target inside the 14th minute and Sheridan was again on target 4 minutes later. Stephen Smith (21 mins) Killian Watters (26 mins) and Stephen Kane (27 mins) had the visitors last scores while Peter Morris closed the scoring in the 29th minute to leave the full time score Arva 4-12 Ballyhaise 1-10.
