Arva had their first outing in Division 1 of the All County Football League in over 20 years when they entertained Ballyhaise in Michael Cully Park on Sunday last. In ideal weather conditions the game was played at a very high tempo all through and in the end the sides could not be separated finishing level at 1-10 each. The visitors opened the scoring with a pointed free in the 1st minute and with a number of missed chances on both sides we had to wait until the 9th minute for the next one when Conal Sheridan pointed a free for Arva. Peter Morris (9 min) and Sheridan (11 min) put the home side into the lead. Ballyhaise pulled one back in the 17th min and again we had stalemate until Sheridan pointed an Arva free (26 min). The visitors added a free (28 min) and a point from play (31 min) with Sheridan on target for Arva in between (29 min) to leave the half time score Arva 0-5 Ballyhaise 0-4. The home side had the opening scores of the second half with Brian Ellis (1 min) and Jonathan Mc Cabe (5 min) on target. Ballyhaise hit a brace (6th and 11th mins) but Arva got a great lift in the 12th minute when following a great move up the field Ellis hit the net to leave them 4 points ahead. This was short lived however as the visitors replied with a goal and a point to level the scores in the 14th minute. Mc Cabe put Arva ahead in the 20th minute but the visitors equalised 3 minutes later. Sheridan put Arva ahead again (26 min) before the visitors hit a brace (27 min – free / 29 min) and with time ticking away Arva were awarded a free which Sheridan pointed and the long whistle sounded.
