Div 3 Reserve: Arva 2-10 Ballyhaise 3-8
On Sunday last Arva welcomed Ballyhaise to Michael Cully Park for a Division 3 Reserve League game and the home side were doing well at half time leading by 1-6 to 1-1. What happened after that – well Ballyhaise took over and scored 2-5 to a single point for Arva and were leading by 3-6 to 1-7 by the 53rd minute. Arva did battle back and scored 1-3 to 0-2 for the visitors but it just wasn’t enough and Ballyhaise won on a score 3-8 (17) to 2-10 (16).

Div 3 Arva 0-7 Ballymachugh 0-7
Arva had Ballymachugh as visitors to Michael Cully Park on Friday evening last for the Division 3 League and after a hard fought encounter the sides finished level on a score of 0-7 each. With a stiff breeze blowing down the field the home side only registered a single point in the first half – although they did register at least 7 wide’s – while the visitors hit 4 points. In the second half Arva recorded 6 points while Ballymachugh got 3 points.
Again Arva had too many wide’s both from frees and play in the second half and along with some bad passing denied them victory. Ciaran Brady was the scorer in the first half with Brian Ellis, Peter Morris 0-2, and Kevin Bouchier 0-3 scoring in the second.
Arva team – John Kiernan, Stephen Ellis, Sean Mc Manus, Shane Finnegan, Thomas Brady, James Morris, Ciaran Brady, Dermot Mc Glade, Cian Sheridan, Conal Sheridan, Peter Morris, Brian Ellis, Jonathan Mc Cabe, Kevin Bouchier, Paul Brady.
Subs – Conor Mc Entee, Bryan Mc Entee, Sean Donnelly.
The home side weren’t helped by the loss thru injury of full back Sean Mc Manus early in the game while his replacement Conor Mc Entee was stretchered off also in the first half which lasted for 44 minutes. Both injuries were totally accidental as both sides suffered numerous other injuries over the hour. Last week Arva also lost Fergal Mc Glade thru injury and we wish all players a speedy recovery.

The Cavan U-21 team were defeated by Roscommon on Saturday last in Pearse Park, Longford on a score 2-7 to 2-2 in the All Ireland semi-final. Cavan supporters were irate with a number of refereeing decisions and especially when he chickened out of giving a Penalty after a Cavan player was deliberately fouled in the square. He was very inconsistent all through and most of his bad decisions effected Cavan. However we congratulate the team and management for all the thrills they gave us inthe Ulster championship and we look forward to seeing more of these players in the Cavan jersey in the years ahead.

The Cavan U-21 team had a fantastic victory over Tyrone in the Ulster Championship Final in Brewster Park, Enniskillen. Three Ulster U-21 Finals in a row and 2 wins over Tyrone – must be doing something right. Cavan led from the start and Tyrone were playing catch up all through. As supporters waited and waited for the inevitable Tyrone take over the Cavan players never gave up and were worthy winners. All roads lead to Pearse Park, Longford on Saturday where Cavan take on Roscommon in the U-21 All Ireland semi-final. The game is timed to start at 4.00 pm but we urge all supporters to get to the venue in good time and not have the game delayed as happened on Wednesday last. Cavan played Antrim in Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday last where they were defeated by 4-5 to 0-12 but thankfully Tipperary beat Offaly so Cavan stay in Division 3 for next season. Cavan supporters were unhappy with the style of play and the fact that conceded 4 goals and a big improvement is needed if they are to have a look in against Donegal in the Ulster Championship.
